One of the best native ground covers - a replacement to Ivy and Vinca.  Delicate white flowers in the spring.

Monarda didyma

Flowers red in the early summertime, which attracts hummingbirds.  Also used in teas, primarily Earl Grey.

Bethroot /Toadshade Trillium

Trillium cuneatum

Native Trillium with a dark red, central flower in early spring.  Grows in shady woods but adaptable to woodland gardens.

Beautiful, tall spikes of bright yellow flowers in the early summer.  Very durable and long-lived once established.

Blazing Star /Spiked Gayfeather

Liatris spicata

Tall, purple flowers that attract butterflies and other pollinators in early summer.  One of the nectar sources for Monarch Butterflies - pairs well with Milkweed for this reason.  Deer resistant.

One of the first to flower in spring, with ephemeral blue and pink trumpet-shaped flower clusters.  A woodland plant pollinated by butterflies.

A tough, easy to grow native that's great for borders when planted in masses.  Clusters of light blue flowers in spring.

Aruncus dioicus

A fantastic, clump-forming shrub with large, finely-textured white blooms in late spring.  Best suited as a shrub-like background plant in half shady borders, where it has plenty of room.

A shorter, more compact cultivar of our native Joe-pye Weed, suitable for a garden.  Dark pink flowers attract pollinators in summer.

Swamp Milkweed /Rose Milkweed

Asclepias incarnata

Milkweed is the only type of plant that Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on - Monarch caterpillars eat the leaves and butterflies pollinate it.  Our native Swamp Milkweed has clusters of dark pink flowers in summer.

Spreading masses of light blue flowers in spring.  A popular and durable plant for restoration projects, and a showy staple in any garden.  Attracts pollinators.

Obedient Plant /False Dragonhead

Physostegia virginiana

Blooms in the late summer in pink/lavendar spikes resembling snapdragons.  Looks best in large masses, and flowers are long-lasting when cut.

Coral Bells'Dale's Strain'  /American Alumroot

Heuchera americana 'Dale's Strain'

'Dale's Strain' is a cultivar of Alumroot that is as close to our native Alumroot as possible.  It is known for its beautiful marbled foliage, and gives color and pattern to a woodland shade garden.

This eye-catching, spiny-leafed plant blooms with white bristly flowers in the summer.  It thrives in a hot, dry environment and is pollinated by several species of native moths, bees and flies.

Each of our three beautiful Coneflowers bloom in mid to late summer, with wide, brightly-colored flowers with a bristly center.  Our three species are Yellow Coneflower, Eastern Purple Coneflower, and White 'Alba' cultivar Coneflower.  All three are butterfly magnets!

A non-native Solomon's Seal with green and white variegated leaves, and small white flowers hanging from arching stems in spring and summer.  Spreads into large colonies.  Great for a woodland garden.

Cobra Lily  

Native to Japan, as well as regions of China and Korea, Cobra Lily is closely related to our native Jack-in-the-Pulpit.  This beautiful, glossy plant blooms in the spring with incredible striped "cobra heads," and can be kept in an outside container or planted in a woodland shade garden.

This evergreen, slow-spreading plant resembles Lily-of-the-Valley and thrives in woodland gardens. Blooms with delicate white flower bunches in the spring.
